Metabolismo social

Abstract

Since the 1960s, the production of scientific knowledge has made efforts to find categories of analysis that link their objects of study with several environmental factors, allowing the issue to be taken as a social problem. The category of social metabolism has been established as an almost obligatory reference in a large amount of works that sought to problematize the relationship between society and nature. After going through the main marxists viewpoints, the present document intends to review continuities and ruptures in this category based on the review of the production of the main authors who propose it as a key to analyzing the environmental perspective. Finally, it concludes that it is important to use such a category without losing its critical point of view to become a methodology of analysis, so to be able to comprehend socio-environmental conflicts and the social subjects involved in the cycle of capital accumulation.
