Abstract

Het leraarsberoep is een zwakke professie omdat het essentiele kenmerken van een professie mist, zoals het verzamelen van kennis over de effectiviteit van de (eigen) onderwijspraktijk en het toepassen van inzichten uit die kennis op de eigen praktijk. Een recente ontwikkeling in Nederland is de subsidiering door het Ministerie van OCW van de ontwikkeling van Academische DpleidingsScholen (AOS) in zowel het primair als secundair onderwijs. AOS beogen het onderzoeken van de eigen handelingspraktijk door leraren en leraren-in-opleiding te bevorderen en deze kennis en inzichten te koppelen aan onderwijsvernieuwing en schoolontwikkeling. Op deze wijze wordt geprobeerd een krachtige werkplekleeromgeving te realiseren voor het leren en professioneel ontwikkelen van leraren en leraren-in-opleiding. Het opzetten, uitvoeren en evalueren van praktijk nabij onderzoek door leraren en leraren-in-opleiding bevordert, zo wordt verondersteld, de professionele ontwikkeling van leraren, omdat leraren diepgaande kennis over de effectiviteit van de eigen onderwijspraktijk verzamelen en deze delen met collega's als 'critical friends'. De vraag die centraal staat is onder welke condities een AOS deze doelen kan realiseren. De conclusie is dat er op dit moment weinig empirische evidentie is voor deze veronderstellingen, omdat de AOS nog nauwelijks in de Nederlandse onderwijspraktijk is geimplementeerd.
