Abstract

'Jij hebt ze bij elkaar gelaten - geloof, politiek en liefde - jouw liefdesliederen zijn politiek, jouw psalmen erotisch, jouw JA-zeggen, jouw vieren van het leven is omvattend', zo beschrijft Dorothee Solle de Nicaraguaanse dichter, priester en revolutionair Ernest Cardenal. Zijn gedichten tonen daarom ook een nieuwe horizon voor de spirituele weg van de toekomst. Deze weg is verworteld in de monastieke traditie, maar vrij van doctrinaire rechtlijnigheid. Zij staat voor innerlijke verandering, maar onthoudt zich van individualistische en esoterische gevoelsmystiek. Cardenals poezie articuleert de weerbarstige kracht en de kosmische dimensie van de christelijke spritualiteit, die altijd een kritische spiritualiteit is. In deze uitgave worden niet minder dan tachtig in het Nederlands vertaalde gedichten gepresenteerd, omraamd met reflecties op de persoon van de Cardenal en de krachtige spiritualiteit die uit zijn gedichten spreekt.
