La emigración sirio-libanesa del Imperio Otomano hacia Argentina, 1880-1920

Abstract

En esta tesis doctoral tenemos como objetivo analizar la emigración sirio-libanesa del Imperio Otomano hacia Argentina, entre 1880-1920, desde su organización local en las costas de Siria y el Monte Líbano hasta su llegada hacia las costas argentinas y actividad en ese país. Aunque la emigración sirio-libanesa hacia Argentina se inició en la década de 1860, para la intensificación de este flujo migratorio hubo que esperar hasta la mitad de la década de 1880. A partir de entonces, los inmigrantes partieron desde las costas sirio-libanesas, haciendo escala también en algunos puertos del Mediterráneo Oriental para recibir más inmigrantes, y llegaron a algunas ciudades europeas, tales como Génova, Marsella, Barcelona y Trieste, para embarcar en transatlánticos y pasar a los países de Sudamérica. En este sentido, Argentina llegó a ser el primer destino de los inmigrantes en la parte sur del continente, particularmente a partir del comienzo del siglo XX. Estos inmigrantes se constituyeron como una colectividad muy voluminosa en ese país y desarrollaron relaciones particulares con el Imperio Otomano y las autoridades argentinas, particularmente a partir del establecimiento del Consulado General Otomano en Buenos Aires...
