El origen latino de algunas denominaciones de gobernante en español

Abstract

Benjamín García-Hernández (Escurial de la Sierra, 1945) se formó como filólogo clásico en la Universidad de Salamanca, donde obtuvo su licenciatura en 1970 y el grado de doctor en 1975. Su labor docente se ha desarrollado en las universidades de Salamanca, Córdoba, León y, sobre todo, desde 1986, en la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, de la que es Catedrático Emérito desde 2015. Sus dos grandes maestros, Luis Michelena y Eugenio Coseriu, le inculcaron desde sus primeros años de formación la pasión por la lingüística y, en especial, por la semántica léxica, a la que pronto se unió la que siempre ha sentido por la comedia plautina. Por estos dos ámbitos de estudio ha sabido también encaminar la labor investigadora de sus discípulos, con los que ha formado una auténtica escuela española de lexemática latina y ha llevado a cabo un importante número de proyectos. Uno de los latinistas españoles con mayor resonancia internacional, forma parte desde hace siete lustros del International Committee for Latin Linguistics y ha sido también miembro numerario entre 2000 y 2014 del Comité International pour l’Étude du Latin Vulgaire et Latin Tardif, del que es actualmente miembro de honor.
