Otro mundo es posible

Abstract

The article deals with the changes that happened after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. The end of the confrontation between blocs with the disappearance of the Soviet Union put an end to the post-WWII world order. In that same period, the revolution of telecommunications and advances in biotechnology announced the birth of a new society: the informational society. A new term arose: globalization. With the arrival of the new century, the new emergent realities exposed the new risks of a global society. The attacks of September 11, 2001, altered the world agenda. In this conflicting context, the poorly-named antiglobalization movement emerged with strength. In front of Davos, Porto Alegre emerged with growing force.
