Abstract

Nucleación y crecimiento de cristales en geles se produce en un sistema no homogéneo que evoluciona continuamente en el tiempo. El sistema se caracteriza en un instante dado por los perfiles de sobresaturación, concentración y pH. Los perfiles correspondientes al momento de la nucleación explican los aspectos espaciales de la conducta de nucleación, es decir, la localización de los precipitados. Sin embargo, otros aspectos, tales como la densidad de nucleación yel nivel de sobresaturación en el momento de formación del primer precipitado, precisan de la historia evolutiva del medio para ser explicados. En el presente trabajo se distingue entre los aspectos espaciales (relacionados con la inhomogeneidad del medio) y secuenciales (relacionados con la historia evolutiva) de la conducta de nucleación en sistemas difusión-reacción. Con el objeto de parametrizar la evolución físico-química del sistema se utiliza una variable, la velocidad de sobresaturación, que permite explicar los aspectos secuenciales de la nucleación. El estudio se centra en el crecimiento de cristales de estroncianita por contradifusión de Na2C03 y SrCl2 a través de una columna de gel de silice.
