Procesos de ladera activos en el deslizamiento de Bàlitx (Mallorca) desde el Pleistoceno superior

Abstract

El deslizamiento de Bàlitx, situado en el escarpado litoral de la Sierra de Tramuntana de Mallorca, es un gran deslizamiento rocoso de tipo cuña cuyos planos de rotura coinciden con la reactivación de dos fallas normales y una superficie de cabalgamiento basal. El volumen de material movilizado se estima en unos 200 hm3, ocupando un área triangular de 1,3 km2, y con un desplazamiento de unos 165 m. La datación del mismo con U/Th, pone de manifiesto una edad superior a 400 ka. Sin embargo, se ha identificado procesos de expansión lateral y de desplome de grandes bloques de roca procedentes del escarpe principal del deslizamiento, así como la apertura de grietas decamétricas en la masa deslizada. Mediante las dataciones realizadas, se ha podido constatar que estos procesos son activos desde el Pleistoceno superior (83 ka), lo que pone de manifiesto la reciente actividad del deslizamiento.
