Abstract

En 1911 Beijerinck describió un microorganismo que había aislado del suelo y al que denominó Micrococcus calcoaceticus, debido a que lo había cultivado en un caldo de enriquecimiento que contenía acetato de calcio. Se trataba de la primera especie descrita del género Acinetobacter, actualmente reconocida como Acinetobacter calcoaceticus [Beijerinck, 1911]. Las siguientes décadas se caracterizaron por la confusión desde un punto de vista taxonómico. Se fueron describiendo distintas especies de acinetobacterias, algunas de las cuales permanecen todavía sin una identificación formal. En algunos casos, las especies descritas se incluyeron inicialmente en otros géneros; como Micrococcus, Moraxella o Achromobacter; aunque tras reclasificación, hoy están formalmente incluidas en el género Acinetobacter. El nombre del género Acinetobacter fue propuesto por Brisou y Prévot en 1954. En cuanto a su etimología, la palabra “Acinetobacter” proviene del griego; “a” actúa como partícula negativa, “kinetos” significa “móvil”, y “bakter” significa “bacilo”. El nombre “Acinetobacter” describe por tanto, un grupo de bacterias inmóviles con morfología bacilar [Brisou, 1954]...
