Abstract

Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) are a set of chronic neuropsychiatric disorders where deficiencies in social interaction, communication and imagination are qualitatively altered. These patients may present a greater risk of oral health due to their special condition and certain limitations in oral hygiene. their eating patterns are often governed by food rejection/denial or preferences for certain types of foods, and may be malnourished or, conversely, exceed intake. this leads to oral alterations that further complicate their diet. there are multiple studies on the analysis of the nutritionsl profile or on food selectivity. However, it has never been analyzed from a multidisciplinary point of view, where nutrition, diet and dentistry are studied as a whole in the child with autism. The main objective of this study was to determine the anthropometric, nutritional intake and oral health status in a population of typically developing children. To evaluate and compare feeding patterns in both populations and to determine the degree of nutritional inadequacy and to study its association with oral alterations.
