Abstract

The purpose of this study is to provide empirical evidence on the relationship between attachment and satisfaction with the relationship in the Spanish population. All this, considering the mediating role of relationship time. With the collaboration of 212 participants between the ages of 20 and 60 (M=40.495, SD=15.798), the attachment style (ECR-S) and the satisfaction with the couple relationship (DAS) have been assessed to later relate their scores with sociodemographic data (sex, marital status, age and length of relationship). The results confirm the interference of relationship time as a mediating variable in the satisfaction with the couple and, although to a lesser extent, in the accentuation of the avoidant attachment style. Avoidance maintains a direct link with relationship time and inversely with satisfaction, contrary to anxiety, which is directly related to both variables. The discoveries on the reduction in the level of satisfaction over time and its relationship with higher levels of avoidance, can be taken into consideration by psychologists and professionals involved in the field of couples, but taking into account that what varies the most over the years it is satisfaction with the relationship, since the attachment, although related, seems to remain more stable.
