Valoración del juego del pivote en balonmano

Abstract

The main target of the following study is to value the skills of the pivot during the set attack through numerical data. Many experts were interviewed using a questionnaire to delimitate the negative or positive consequences of the skills during the development of the set attack. A total amount of 1733 attack sequences from 30 matches of the ASOBAL League 2006-07 were analysed. The 97.8% of the skills developed by the pivots in possession of the ball during the culmination phase showed positive consequences (goals, penalties and 2 minutes suspensions for the opponents), while the 2.2% showed negative consequences (technical mistakes and missed shoots). The 98.4% of the skills used by the pivots when they do not possess the ball, so they collaborate with the other attackers, turned out to develop positive consequences and 1.6% negative consequences. The consequences of the skills were used to establish a numerical value to the different actions of the pivots, observing an average of 17 (± 5.3) points per game on the supposed top 3 ASOBAL League pivots according to the expert’s opinions. This analysis can be a benchmark to evaluate the performance of the pivot.
