After a brief state-of-the-art description, we introduce the fundamental concepts of independent component analysis, which is the reference technique we used to solve the blind- or semi-blind source separation problem for astrophysical images. The specific aspects of this problem are then presented, and the results we obtained with some specific techniques are described.
