Abstract

Analisi di un centro urbano a continuità di vita (Montesardo, comune di Alessano-Lecce), del Basso Salento, e del suo territorio, attraverso l'analisi dei dati bibliografici, l'indagine di superficie e lo studio ed interpretazione delle foto aeree storiche e recenti. L'abitato fu dotato di una cinta muraria databile, per confronto con gli altri centri antichi del basso Salento, genericamente al IV sec. a.C. Il territorio circostante mostra numerosi frammenti fittili e strutturali riferibili all'età del Ferro, esigue le attestazioni dell'età arcaica e classica. Il maggiore sviluppo dell'abitato avvenne sicuramente fra IV e III sec. a.C. L'analisi delle foto aeree verticali mostra la presenza di un doppio circuito murario: il primo cinge l'attuale centro storico, mentre il secondo è percepibile, in parte come traccia da sopravvivenza e in parte come traccia da umidità, all'esterno del centro urbano moderno.
