Nuove metodologie di acquisizione dati in remoto per il monitoraggio di inquinanti in ambiente marino

Abstract

L'obiettivo di questo lavoro è quello di sviluppare un nuovo sistema real time per il monitoraggio di aree marine ad alto rischio di inquinamento, per l'immediato intervento e l'analisi della colonna d'acqua prima e dopo eventuali sversamenti. Ad oggi tali inquinanti sono individuati tramite reti di sensori su boe e ship survey. Le reti di sensori garantiscono un monitoraggio statico di aree marine prospicienti la boa: se lo sversamento avviene poco distante, e le correnti allontanano da essa l'inquinante, la rete non rileva la presenza di tali sostanze. Il secondo metodo implica costi maggiori, l'impiego prolungato di mezzi e personale e analisi svolte in un periodo ristretto di tempo: è quindi una soluzione non adatta al monitoraggio di aree a rischio. Per ottemperare a tali esigenze si è individuata nei Veicoli Autonomi Subacquei (AUV) la piattaforma più idonea da utilizzare. Essi offrono la possibilità di monitorare l'ambiente marino in particolari condizioni (es. nelle ore notturne), quando altre metodiche (es. le registrazioni satellitari) non sono applicabili. L'AUV può inoltre essere utilizzato per eseguire analisi dello stato delle acque in aree estese, tramite survey studiate ad hoc per la specifica area di interesse, grazie alla presenza di diversi tipi di sensore comprendenti un sistema, basato sul naso elettronico, in grado di rilevare la presenza di componenti organiche volatili (VOC) idrocarburiche sopra la superficie dell'acqua.
