Biomedical materials are metals, ceramics, synthetic polymers, inorganic and natural macromolecules (biopolymers) that are manufactured or processed to be suitable for use in or as medical devices or prostheses. There is no universally acceptable biomaterial, each application has to be considered separately. The materials composing the implants impose a set of requirements concerning both biological and materials properties.
