Abstract

La Temperatura Superficiale del Mare (SST) è una variabile di rilevante interesse scientifico, poiché è parametro chiave nella determinazione dei flussi di calore fra mare e atmosfera, responsabili dei principali fenomeni meteorologici e climatici a varie scale. Ben nota è l'importanza della SST nel determinare gli scenari climatici a lungo termine o nelle previsioni dei cicli di El Niño-La Niña. Il laboratorio per la Meteorologia e la Modellistica Ambientale (LaMMA), gestito da IBIMET-CNR, ha implementato un algoritmo per il calcolo operativo della SST, utilizzando i dati del satellite geostazionario MSG (METEOSAT Second Generation), con l'obiettivo di avere un prodotto flessibile e calibrato sul Mediterraneo, utilizzabile per indagare l'importanza delle dinamiche della SST nel determinare la meteorologia e la climatologia stagionale, anche a scale inferiori a quelle solitamente considerate.
