ENGLISH SUMMARY The aim of this thesis is to study the traditional residential of Anadolukavağı village located in the Beykoz region of Istanbul city and also suggest some possible precautions to preserve it. The thesis is presented in 6 chapters. İn the first chapter it's a general presentation of Bosphorus, including its geological situation, climate, plants, topographical situation and its development throughout history. İn the second chapter, it's the history of Anadolukavağı, its location and borders, transportation, the structure of population, social life and economic situation. İn the third chapter, classification of building topology that constitutes settlement fabric of Anadolukavağı is examined. İn the following of this chapter the reasons which caused damage and the possible threats have been looked into. At the end of this part its registration, analysis of functional use, stucturel topology, building structure, number of storeys, the ways of preservation and the architectural adaptibility of those newly built constructions have been mentioned. İn the fourth chapter, the presentation of Macar Tabyası Street, its present situation and the use of it have been studied from the point of architectural and structural character. İn the structural study the doors and the entrances, windows, balconies and the furuşlar of the registered buildings have been examined under different titles. İn the fifth chapter the development and the processes which the contemporary concept of preservation underwent, both in Turkey and in the world, have been examined under two different headings. International establishments and assemblies that affected the contemporary concept of preservation have been mentioned in a chronological order. İn this section other than these mentioned above the problems concerning the preservation of the tradiotional rresidention of Anadolukavağı have been mentioned. İn the sixth chapter, as a conclusion, the possible solutions to the preservation of traditional residental structure of Anadolukavağı have been put forward under the headings urban scale and individual building scale.

ÖZET Bu tezin amacı; İstanbul ilinin Beykoz ilçesine bağlı olan Anadolukavağı köyünün sahip olduğu geleneksel yerleşim dokusunun incelenmesi ve bu dokunun çevreden gelen bütün etkileri de dikkate alan bir koruma yaklaşımı ile korunması için öneriler getirmektir. Tez 6 bölümden oluşmaktadır. 1. Bölümde; Boğaziçi'nin genel olarak tanıtımı yapılmış, topoğrafik durumu, jeolojik durumu, iklimi, bitki örtüsü ve tarihsel gelişimi incelenmiştir. 2.Bölümde; Anadolukavağı 'nm tarihçesi, konumu ve sınırları, ulaşımı, cadde ve sokakları, demografik yapısı, sosyal yapısı ve ekonomik yapısı incelenmiştir. 3.Bölümde; Anadolukavağı'nm yerleşim dokusunu oluşturan yapı türleri, başlıklar altında incelenmiştir. Bu bölümün devammda bölgedeki yapıların bozulma nedenleri ve yapılan gelecekte tehdit eden nedenler araştırılmıştır. Bölüm sonunda, Anadolukavağı 'nda yapılan tescil durumu, fonksiyon-kullanım analizi, strüktürel tipoloji, yapı durumu analizi, kat sayısı analizi, koruma durumu ve yeni yapıların çevreye uyumlularının incelendiği tesbitler yer almaktadır. 4.Bölümde; Anadolukavağı 'nda, Macar Tabya Caddesinin tanımı, bugünkü durumu ve kullanımı incelenmiştir. Bölümün devamında, Macar Tabya Caddesi'nde yer alan tescilli yapılar mekansal ve yapısal açıdan ve yeni yapılar incelenmiştir. Yapısal açıdan yapılan incelemede tescilli yapıların kapı ve girişleri, pencereleri, çıkmaları ve faraşları ayrı başlıklar altında ele alınmıştır. 5. Bölümde; Çağdaş anlamdaki koruma olgusunun gelişimi ve geçirmiş olduğu evreler, dünyada ve Türkiye'de olmak üzere iki ana başlık altında incelenmiştir. Çağdaş koruma olgusunun gelişimini etkileyen uluslararası kuruluş ve toplantılar kronolojik bir sıra içerisinde anlatılmıştır. Bu bölümde ayrıca Anadolukavağı geleneksel yerleşim dokusunun koruma kavramı içerisinde karşılaştığı sorunlar ortaya konulmuştur. ö.Bölümde; Sonuç olarak, Anadolukavağı geleneksel yerleşim dokusunun korunması için uygulanması gerekli çözümler, kentsel ve yapı ölçeğinde olmak üzere iki ana başlık altında ortaya konulmuştur.
