Parti, cami, cemevi: Kürt siyasal hareketinin dinle kurduğu dönüştürücü ilişki

Abstract

It is known that since '70s, when Kurdish society's struggle for political rights in Turkey started to urbanize and open itself up to leftist movement, political subjects in this field took a secular position in terms of their political orientation and discourse. Among many different groups, the political camp, which was started with the People's Labor Party in '90s and now continues with People's Democratic Party, achieved domination in the Kurdish political struggle and came to be known as the Kurdish Political Movement. Both the political camp and other preceding political movements maintained the secular position emerged in '70s until 2000s. However, this position has been going through some transformations from 2000s to the present and the Kurdish Political Movement is trying to define them within its ideological and political universe. While Kurdish movement, which has been carrying out an ethno-political struggle, is seeking for attracting all classes and strata to its side, it is also developing discourses and activities focusing on religious themes in order to gain approval and support of Sunni/religious circle that represents a significant population among Kurdish people. This study focuses on issues such as visibility of religiousness and religious themes in struggle for political rights, inclusion of networks of organization based on religion, civil obedience actions based on religious reference, and increased effectiveness and visibility of religious subjects in politics. This study aims to analyze the change in Kurdish Political Movement's relationship with religion during the Justice and Development Party's (AKP) rule by discussing it in the context of literature on sociology of religion, politics and social movements. Having hegemony theory and the notion of conflict on its background, this study aims to understand and analyze how Kurdish Political Movement regenerates its political struggle, which was built on Marxist-Leninist and thus secular foundations, through religion in the last 15 years and this movement's initiations for developing and including new forms of social struggle.
