Koruyucu heykeller: Yerli halklarda heykel ve heykelin koruyuculuk işlevi

Abstract

To be able to understand indigenous people's art, requires evaluating their art according to their cultural features, belief systems and the geographical structure all together. Especially the belief factor, which orients them to make sculptures which have a ritual or magical function. These sculptures are mostly part of a ritual to be protected from evil and illness. The common feature of these sculptures is that their magical effect is more important than their aesthetic beauty. These sculptures are carrying indigenous people's beliefs and culture that's why they have a different structure than exoteric sculptures.Art work of indigenous people have a community healing effect. These sculptures are made from different materials with proficient techniques. Indigenous people are sometimes called primitive, but they live in our day and freely choose not to organise their communities in the same way we do. Their art is alive and relevant as ever.
