Efectos del cambio climático en las zonas de vida de la Cordillera Carabaya

Abstract

Una alternativa para evaluar los impactos del cambio climático (CC) sobre los ecosistemas de montaña, es a través del uso de Zonas de Vida de Holdridge (HLZ). Se evaluaron los efectos del CC sobre las HLZ de la cordillera Carabaya para un futuro centrado en el 2050 y 2070 de acuerdo a proyecciones de los Modelos de Circulación General, y bajo dos escenarios de emisión RCP4.5 y RCP8.5. Las HLZ para el periodo de referencia (1961-1990), fueron determinados con el modelo bioclimático de Holdridge a partir de información climática grillada del WorldClim (WC) previa reducción de escala estadística y validación con información climática observada. Se determinaron 9 HLZ para la cordillera Carabaya, siendo los más representativos, el Páramo (41.2%), Bosque húmedo-Montano Subtropical (bh-MS, 20.3%) y la Tundra (14.6%); la zona Nival ocupa el 2.2%. Los cambios más alarmantes se observaron bajo el escenario RCP8.5 afectando principalmente las HLZ Nival, Tundra y Páramo con reducciones del 96.1%, 92.7% y 33.9% para el 2050, y 98.8%, 99.2% y 71.7% para el 2070 respectivamente. por otro lado, dichas HLZ se desplazarían a mayores altitudes reduciendo sus áreas de transición entre ellas. Finalmente, la HLZ bh-MS aumentaría en un 86.8% y 131.6% para los escenarios RCP4.5 y RCP8.5 respectivamente desplazando a la Tundra y Páramo.
