Abstract

Ce colloque porte sur la poésie religieuse de langue anglaise, depuis les origines jusqu’à nos jours. Comment un poème exprime-t-il au mieux la foi ? Comment peut-il amener le lecteur à la méditation ? Quels poèmes de langue anglaise témoignent de l’influence des auteurs chrétiens (Saint Augustin, Dante, Maître Eckhart, Loyola, Pascal, Renan, Kierkegaard, Dostoïevski, Péguy…) ? Le poète chrétien se sert-il de la croyance comme d’un ressort du processus créateur, mettant alors en jeu des concepts comme la poiesis ou l’ekphrasis ? Quel usage fait-il du blasphème, de l’humour, de l’ironie, de la rhétorique en général et des figures de style en particulier ?
