Abstract

Largement entretenue par l’auteur des Rougon-Macquart et par le discours médiatique des années 1870-1890, la position centrale et surplombante de Zola sur le naturalisme, une position souvent jugée écrasante par la jeune garde, s’est imposée dans les manuels scolaires et l’histoire littéraire. Avec René-Pierre Colin, Yves Chevrel ou encore Alain Pagès, les études consacrées au naturalisme ont travaillé à nuancer cette lecture auctoriale, parisienne et romanesque et à lui substituer une approche groupale, internationale et transgénérique. Dans le sillage de ces travaux, tous consacrés à l’exploration de ce qu’on peut appeler la sphère naturaliste, une approche du naturalisme via la notion de réseau semble aujourd’hui nécessaire pour identifier et analyser ses ramifications non seulement individuelles mais aussi groupales, esthétiques, génériques, éditoriales et médiatiques, à plus ou moins grande distance de Zola, parfois tout bonnement sans lui.
