Abstract

INTRODUCTION: Nowadays there is a high prevalence of mental disorder in Europe, that as any other disease, can become chronic. These patients can suffer the syndrome called “Psychomotor agitation”, which represents a serious problem because it usually manifests himself as heter or self-aggression. There are several treatments for this syndrome; precaution and action treatments. Among the most important treatments one finds verbal containment, pharmacological restraint, mechanic restrains and alternative measures; these last still in process of development. Most used it is the mechanical restriction, but there are a lot of side effects produced by this treatment. For this reason, we propose the following research. OBJECTIVE: Analyze the effectiveness of alternative measures to psychomotor agitation syndrome. METHODOLOGY: an experimental qualitative study will be realized through an experimental group where the alternative measures will be applied first, and if these are not useful, the mechanical restraint will be applied. Comparing it with a control group where the mechanical restraint will be applied, it will be measure which treatment has been more effective and their side effects.
