Comunicado de Seguridad de Farmacovigilancia Nº 21-2023. Cefalosporina y convulsiones

Abstract

Health Canada ha advertido sobre el posible riesgo de convulsiones asociado a cefalosporinas. La revisión de seguridad se realizó a partir de bases de datos y literatura científica y sugiere una posible relación causal entre el uso de cefalosporinas de cualquier generación y el desarrollo de convulsiones. Esta advertencia también ha sido respaldada por la Autoridad de Seguridad de Medicamentos y Dispositivos Médicos de Nueva Zelanda, quienes consideran que este efecto es de clase farmacológica. Se resalta la importancia de un diagnóstico electroencefalográfico oportuno, ya que el retraso puede tener consecuencias graves, aunque la suspensión del tratamiento suele llevar a una mejora en la función neurológica
