Abstract

En todo proceso químico, algunas de las etapas que lo constituyen son aquellas operaciones unitarias que buscan las modificaciones la composición por medio de métodos que implican la transferencia de masa entre dos fases inmiscibles o parcialmente inmiscibles. En el secado se suministra la cantidad dc energía requerida para que la humedad contenida por el sólido se vaporice y luego sea eliminada, por arrastre. Esta energía se puede suministrar directamente al exponer el sólido húmedo a la acción de un gas caliente, que generalmente es aire, y en otros casos de manera indirecta al poner el sólido en contacto con una superficie metálica caliente. El primer caso corresponde a los denominados secadores de tipo convectivo, que es materia del texto.
