Abstract

La enfermedad inflamatoria intestinal canina (EII) es una patología inflamatoria idiopática que produce síntomas gastrointestinales crónicos o recidivantes en el perro. El origen de la enfermedad es multifactorial y se sospecha que puede existir una interacción entre antígenos alimentarios y otros factores ambientales con la microbiota intestinal de animales genéticamente predispuestos. Este trastorno va a generar una cascada inflamatoria que termina produciendo una infiltración celular en la lámina propia de la mucosa intestinal. Recientemente, se han publicado numerosos estudios enfocados a la búsqueda de biomarcadores que puedan proporcionar una mayor información sobre el diagnóstico, categorización, curso y pronóstico de la enfermedad. Entre estos biomarcadores se encuentran aquellos relacionados con la microbiota intestinal. El desarrollo de técnicas de secuenciación genómica ha permitido definir lo que se considera una microbiota sana dentro del margen individual de cada sujeto, buscar un índice de disbiosis, y describir los microorganismos que componen la microbiota alterada en las enteropatías intestinales crónicas en perros. En la actualidad, las nuevas terapias se basan principalmente en la modificación dietética que incluye probióticos y prebióticos, la administración de antibióticos y/o esteroides e inmunosupresores, solos o en combinación, y en el trasplante de materia fecal, aunque su efectividad es controvertida por la adaptación de la microbiota.
