Evaluación in vitro de la concentración de fluoruros en pastas dentales convencionales comercializadas en Lima

Abstract

Objetivo: Evaluar, in vitro, la concentración de Flúor Total (FT) y Flúor Soluble Total(FST) en las pastas dentales convencionales que tengan una concentración mínima de 1000 ppm F- en el etiquetado. Materiales y métodos: El diseño del estudio fue descriptivo, in vitro y transversal. Se identificaron 12 marcas de pastas dentales de uso familiar adquiridas en centros de venta masiva de Lima metropolitana. De cada marca se obtuvieron tres tubos, y de cada tubo se tomaron muestras por duplicado para evaluar las concentraciones de FT y FST que se expresaron en ppm usando un electrodo específico de ion F-. Resultados: De las pastas evaluadas cinco de ellas contenían NaF, otras cinco MFP, y los dos restantes contenían ambos tipos de sal fluorada. Todas las pastas presentaron un valor de FT mínimo de 1000 ppm F- con excepción de una (X: 968.6). Solo cuatro de las pastas mostraron valores similares entre el FST y lo declarado por el fabricante. Los valores de Fins fueron mayores en las pastas que contenían MFP, en un rango de 13% a 20%. Conclusiones: En la mayoría de las pastas evaluadas, existe gran variabilidad en las concentraciones de FT y FST con respecto a lo señalado por el fabricante. Las pastas con MFP deben ser monitoreadas con mayor énfasis debido a su inestabilidad en el tiempo. Se recomienda un control de calidad más minucioso de las pastas, con el fin de brindar la dosis de flúor mínima necesaria para un control de caries adecuado hasta el vencimiento de la pasta.
