Abstract

La rabia es una enfermedad endémica en el Perú que en la actualidad se limita a los departamentos de Arequipa y Puno. Para evitar su diseminación se requiere conocer la cantidad de canes en cada departamento y las coberturas de vacunación antirrábica. El objetivo del estudio fue cuantificar la cantidad de perros criados en los hogares del departamento de Lima, estimados a partir de la Encuesta Nacional de Programas Presupuestales de 2019 desarrollada por el Instituto Nacional de Estadística e Informática. Las variables de clasificación utilizadas fueron: Provincias de Lima, región geográfica (costa o sierra), zona (rural o urbana), tipo de vivienda (casa o departamentos) y estrato socioeconómico (A, B, C, D y E). Las variables de medición fueron: crianza de perros (si o no), cantidad de perros que cría (número total de perros en la vivienda), ha vacunado perros contra la rabia en los 12 meses anteriores a la realización de la encuesta (si o no) y número de perros vacunados. El 49.4% del total de encuestados indicó tener al menos un can por vivienda, siendo la provincia de Cañete la que tuvo mayor proporción de encuestados con canes (66.5%). La media de canes por vivienda fue de 0.88 para el total de viviendas y 1.79 la media entre las viviendas que mencionaron tener al menos un can. Las mayores proporciones de animales vacunados contra la rabia se observaron en la provincia de Lima (89.8%), en el área urbana (88.9%), región geográfica costa (87.2%), tipo de vivienda departamento (93.3%) y estrato socioeconómico A (94.1) y B (94.0%).

Rabies is an endemic disease in Peru that is currently limited to the departments of Arequipa and Puno. To avoid its spread, it is necessary to know the number of dogs in each department and the rabies vaccination coverage. The objective of the study is to quantify the number of dogs raised in households in the department of Lima, estimated from the 2019 National Survey of Budgetary Programs was used, developed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics, limiting its scope to the information Corresponding to the department of Lima. The dependent variables were: dog breeding (yes or no), number of dogs raised (total number of dogs in the household), have dogs get vaccinated against rabies in the 12 months prior to the survey (yes or no) and number of vaccinated dogs. 49.4% of the total respondents indicated that they had at least one dog per dwelling, with the province of Cañete being the one with the highest proportion of respondents with dogs (66.5%). 0.88 was the average number of dogs per home and 1.79 was the average among the homes that mentioned having at least one dog. The highest proportions of animals vaccinated against rabies were observed in the province of Lima (89.8%), in the urban area (88.9%), coastal geographic region (87.2%), type of housing department (93.3%) and sociodemographic stratum A (94.1) and B (94.0%).
