Abstract

Objetivos: Determinar características sociodemográficas de la fecundidad en adolescentes peruanas entre 1996 y 2009. Materiales y métodos: Se utilizó las bases de datos de las Encuestas Nacionales Demográficas y de Salud realizadas en el Perú entre 1996 y 2009. Se describe la tasa de fecundidad específica en el grupo quinquenal de 15-19 años; las características sociodemográficas incluyendo área de residencia (urbano/rural), lugar de procedencia, nivel educativo y estado conyugal; inicio de actividad sexual, evolución de la intención reproductiva de las adolescentes; y evolución de las preferencias en el uso de métodos anticonceptivos. Resultados: La tasa de fecundidad específica en el grupo quinquenal de 15 - 19 años ha disminuido desde 1996, sin embargo, no de manera constante. El embarazo en adolescentes es más frecuente en la región de selva, en áreas urbanas, y en mujeres sin nivel de instrucción. La proporción de mujeres que iniciaron su primera relación sexual antes de los 15 años se ha incrementando desde 1996. La intención reproductiva de las adolescentes ha disminuido desde 1996. La preferencia en el uso de métodos anticonceptivos se ha incrementado desde 1996, especialmente los inyectables y los condones. Conclusiones: Se observa una disminución de la fecundad en adolescentes desde 1996, aunque no de manera constante. Es necesario fortalecer los programas de educación y salud sexual en adolescentes en el Perú que permitan implementar programas eficientes y efectivos de salud reproductiva que logren disminuir la fecundidad adolescente.
