Abstract

Context: The following literary review is based on an analysis of 8 articles that studied the longevity of lithium disilicate veneers and the most common causes of failure. Objective: To determine the longevity and causes of failure of lithium disilicate veneers based on the literature review. Information Search Processes: This work is a literature review. Initially, a PubMed search was carried out, prioritizing studies with a maximum of 10 years old, using the key words: longevity, lithium disilicate and veneers; obtaining 103 articles, of which 8 met the parameters of our search. Evidence analysis: Of the 8 selected articles; 5 articles were chosen by systematic review (England, Ireland, Germany and Saudi Arabia), and 3 by manual review (Italy and Brazil). The year of publication of the articles varies from 2012 to 2021, considering survival and complications of lithium disilicate veneers as the main objective. Conclusions: Lithium disilicate veneers have a longevity of 5 to 10 years, without presenting any clinical complications according to the literature review. The main causes of failure of lithium disilicate veneers are according to the literary review: fracture and chipping, detachment, secondary caries, severe marginal discoloration and endodontic problems.
