Abstract

Las condiciones de El Niño costero continuarán desarrollándose por lo menos hasta invierno del presente año, con una magnitud que sería moderada, sin descartar que podría tener característica de condición cálida fuerte en mayo. Para la región del Pacífico central, existe una mayor probabilidad del desarrollo de El Niño a partir de junio. Se estima que alcanzaría una magnitud débil hasta setiembre, con una tendencia creciente a moderada en el último trimestre de 2023. Para el trimestre mayo-julio de 2023, prevé precipitaciones superiores a lo normal en la costa norte y centro, así como en la sierra norte occidental y selva norte del país, siendo las lluvias en mayo las determinantes para los departamentos de Tumbes y Piura principalmente. Se prevé que debería continuar la disponibilidad y accesibilidad de especies ecuatoriales (samasa u otras), especies transzonales (caballa y bonito) y oceánicas (barrilete, atún aleta amarilla y otros túnidos) frente al mar peruano. Se espera que la población de merluza mantenga una alta dispersión al sur de Paita. Se recomienda a los tomadores de decisiones tener en cuenta los posibles escenarios de acuerdo con el pronóstico estacional vigente y las proyecciones para el verano 2024, con el fin de que se adopten las acciones para la reducción del riesgo y la preparación para la respuesta.
