Abstract

"Thus, victim of his loss, he did not know or want anything other than to pursue without truce to the object of his passion, to dream of him in his absence and, in the manner of lovers… in a mere shadow”1. . Thomas Mann (6 .06.1875-12.08.1955), German writer, with nationality American, it is said that he was the last great novelist of the 19th century. Their His works are critical and reflective, they talk about German life and the spirit European of the first half of the 20th century, based on the radical ideas of the Bible, Freud, Schopenhauer and Nietzsche. He belonged to a family merchant and rich, he was born in Lübeck, but soon settled in München, where he studied at the Technischen Hochschule in this city to be journalist. His literary beginning was made in Simplicissimus (Zeitschrift satirical weekly interview) with “Der wille zum Glück” (short story). His first novel was "Little Mr. Fidemann", 1898, published in Neue Deutsche Rundschau. In 1900 he began his military service, which would not last but three months. He meets Katja Pringheim, whom he marries in the spring of 1905.

Sus trabajos son críticos y reflexivos, hablan sobre la vida alemana y el espíritu europeo de la primera mitad del Siglo XX, basándose en las ideas radicales de la Biblia, Freud, Schopenhauer y Nietzsche. Perteneció a una familia comerciante y rica, nació en Lübeck, pero pronto se estableció en München, donde estudió en la Technischen Hochschule de esta ciudad para ser periodista. Su comienzo literario lo efectuó en Simplicissimus (Zeitschriftrevista semanal satírica) con “Der wille zum Glück” (cuento). Su primera novela fue “El pequeño señor Fidemann”, 1898, publicada en Neue Deutsche Rundschau. En 1900 comienza su servicio militar, que no duraría sino tres meses. Conoce a Katja Pringheim, con quien se casa en la primavera de 1905.
