Eficacia del cepillado dental en la remoción del biofilm en niños de 6 a 12, años de la Institución Educativa Andrés Bello. Lima, Perú

Abstract

Objetivo: Conocer la técnica de cepillado de los niños de la I.E. Andrés Bello y su eficacia para remover el biofilm. Material y método: Estudio epidemiológico, descriptivo, diseño prospectivo de corte transversal. La muestra fue de 117 niños de 6 a 13 años de edad. Se utilizó tabletas reveladoras para determinar la presencia de placa y se evaluó la higiene bucal mediante el Índice de O'Leary, se registró 4 superficies por cada diente. Se comparó el Índice de Higiene Oral basal, con el valor obtenido posterior al cepillado dental habitual. Resultados: El cepillado dental horizontal prevaleció con el 75.2%. El tiempo medio usado fue de 1' 53”. El tiempo empleado según método de cepillado no presentó diferencia significativa, anova p > 0.05. El cepillado dental vertical presentó mayor efectividad en la remoción de placa (54.7%), anova p > 0.05. Los tipos de cepillado presentaron una reducción de placa de 46% aproximadamente. Conclusiones: El cepillado horizontal prevaleció no resultando el más eficaz en la remoción de biofilm.
