Optimizing the technical preparation of orienteering competitors

Abstract

The dissertation concerns the problem about the technical preparation of orienteering competitors. Specificity of the sport is that the competitor has to think and take correct decisions during running at high speed and also to regulate his running speed based on the technical difficulty of the course. Orienteering requires not only good physical shape but also high level of cognitive processes of the nervous system, perfect concentration and stability of attention and memory. So this assumes such training process that a big part of it are trainings for improving the psychological qualities as a part of the technical preparation. The purpose of the study is to develop and apply methodology for optimizing the technical preparation of orienteering competitors and to follow its effect on their specific preparedness and psychological readiness. 175 persons took part in the study including medalists from World and European championships, national team runners, coaches and leaders. The results of the study categorically confirms the hypothesis of the study that the applying of the methodology for optimizing the technical preparation of orienteering competitors through using modern technologies for analysis of the training and competing processes will lead to improving their specific preparedness and psychological readiness. During the study a correlation between psychological and physical qualities in orienteering competitors is established which is of big practical value and helps
