Corporate Governance and Corporate “sustainability” from CSR to ESG and Corporate “sustainability”

Abstract

The relationship between corporate governance and sustainable development: Introduce the importance of corporate governance in the modern business environment and explore its connection with sustainable development goals. Emphasize the growing awareness of corporate social, environmental, and governance responsibilities during business operations, reflected in the transformation of corporate governance. Transition from CSR to ESG: Explain how the traditional concept of corporate social responsibility (CSR) has evolved into a more comprehensive consideration of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors. Discuss the reasons behind this shift, such as increasing societal expectations for corporate social responsibility and investors' focus on corporate governance and sustainability performance. Evolution of legal and policy environments: Describe the global impact of laws and policies on corporate governance and sustainable development. Pay particular attention to the recent enactment of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) by the European Union, and how this directive drives companies towards greater transparency and accountability.
