Abstract

The thesis addresses the survey, analysis, and enhancement of minor historic centers subject to depopulation and abandonment, proposing an integrated approach based on multiscale reality-based digital models, HBIM modeling, and 3D web-oriented geospatial platforms for data aggregation and sharing. The research proposes methodological tools capable of building shared knowledge bases for the study, management, and enhancement of these contexts, overcoming information fragmentation and the limitations of traditional documentation methodologies. The work defines a multi-sensor and multi-scale operational workflow that integrates GNSS, surveying, UAV with LiDAR and RGB sensors, Structure-from-Motion photogrammetry, and terrestrial laser scanning techniques. The reality-based models produced at different resolutions form the basis for segmentation processes and subsequent HBIM modeling, with the conversion of geometries into queryable IFC objects connected to external databases containing historical and stratigraphic information. The methodology is applied to the case study of Campo di Brenzone, a small village on the Veronese shore of Lake Garda, to verify the robustness of the proposed approach. The results consist of the creation of a multiscale digital system composed of interoperable territorial, urban, and architectural models, linked to information databases and integrated into a 3D geospatial platform based on CesiumJS. The proposed approach demonstrates how digitalization can be an effective tool for organizing and integrating knowledge, fostering new forms of analysis, management, and enhancement of abandoned historic centers
