Abstract

ABSTRACT TELLİOGLU, AS, Neopterin levels in migraine headaches, Kirikkale University, Faculty of Medicine, Neurology, Specialization Thesis, Kirikkale, 2005. Aim: In this study the goal was to evaluate the neurogenic inflammation in migraine headaches by monitoring the levels of neopterin which is an identifier of inflammation, in the urine during the painful and painless periods of migraine. Method: No medical conditions that would affect the neopterin levels, a total of 30 migraine patients (25 women, 5 men) and another 30 people were chosen as a control group for this study. The urine samples were taken in the morning from painless and control groups. The painful period urine samples were taken when the pain was most severe. The collected urine samples were kept under appropriate conditions and studied via the HPLC technique. Alongside the crosscheck with the control group for the painful and painless period neopterin levels, the duration of the illness, the duration of the discomfort and the intensity of the discomfort an d neopterin levels were also monitored. Conclusion: We have found that the neopterin levels were high more distinctively in the painful period and also in the painless period. This data supports the idea of a continuous neurogenic inflamation throughout the duration of the migrane headache. Keywords: migraine, neopterin, neurogenic inflammation

IV ÖZET TELLİOĞLU, AS, Migren başağrısında neopterin düzeyleri, Kırıkkale Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Nöroloji Anabilim Dalı Uzmanlık Tezi, Kırıkkale, 2005. Amaç: Bu çalışmada, migren başağrısında ağrısız ve ağrılı dönemde inflamasyonun bir belirteci olan neopterinin idrarda düzeylerine bakarak migren başağrısında nörojenik inflamasyonu değerlendirmek amaçlanmıştır. Yöntem: Çalışmaya neopterin düzeyini etkileyecek başka bir rahatsızlığı olmayan 25'i kadın, 5'i erkek 30 migren hastası ile yaş ve cinsiyet uyumlu 30 kontrol grubu alınmıştır. Kontrol grubu ile migren grubunda ağrısız dönem idrar örnekleri sabah ilk idrar olarak toplanmıştır. Ağrılı dönemde ise, örnekler ağrının en şiddetli olduğu dönemde toplanmıştır. Alınan idrar örnekleri uygun ortamda saklanarak HPLC yöntemiyle incelenmiştir. Ağrısız ve ağrılı dönem neopterin düzeylerinin hasta ve kontrol grubu ile karşılaştırılması yanında;migren grubunda hastalık süresi, ağrı süresi ve ağrı şiddeti ile neopterin düzeyi ilişkisi değerlendirilmiştir. Sonuç: Neopterin düzeyleri ağrılı dönemde daha belirgin olmak üzere ağrılı ve ağrısız dönemde artmış olarak bulunmuştur. Bu veriler, migren başağrısında süre giden bir nörojenik inflamasyonu destekler niteliktedir. Anahtar Kelimeler: migren, neopterin, nörojenik inflamasyon
