The aim of the thesis is to examine the current status of broadband Internet in Slovenia, with a greater emphasis on rural areas, especially in the south-eastern part of Slovenia. The Ministry of Economic Development and Technology has so far launched two calls for funds from the European Regional Development Fund. On both calls were selected 35 municipalities, which they could started with the construction of an open broadband network using European funds and funds of public-private partners. With the help of a structured interview for county of southeastern Slovenia it was seen that all municipalities actively work towards the development of broadband networks, that's why they declared the public tender for the acquisition of assets but only nine municipalities were selected. Contractor of construction were Tritel d. o. o. and GVO d. o. o. which were also co-investor project. Other municipalities that were not chosen in a public tender for the acquisition of assets, will continue in the future to strive for better broadband and waited for another public tender for the acquisition of assets or use different model of funding to help implement the construction of broadband infrastructure.

Cilj diplomske naloge je pregledati trenutno stanje uporabe širokopasovnega interneta v Sloveniji z večjim poudarkom na podeželju, predvsem v jugovzhodnem delu Slovenije. Ministrstvo za gospodarski razvoj in tehnologijo je do sedaj objavilo dva razpisa za pridobitev sredstev iz Evropskega sklada za regionalni razvoj. Na obeh razpisih je bilo izbranih 35 občin, ki so lahko začele z gradnjo odprtega širokopasovnega omrežja z evropskimi sredstvi in sredstvi javno-zasebnih partnerjev. S strukturiranim intervjujem za občine jugovzhodne Slovenije smo ugotovili, da si vse občine aktivno prizadevajo za razvoj širokopasovnih omrežij in so se zato tudi prijavile na javni razpis za pridobitev sredstev, a izbranih je bilo le devet občin. Izvajalca gradnje sta bila Tritel, d. o. o., in GVO, d. o. o., ki sta bila tudi soinvestitorja projekta. Druge občine, ki niso bile izbrane na javnem razpisu za pridobitev sredstev, si bodo tudi v prihodnje prizadevale za boljšo širokopasovno infrastrukturo in čakale na dodatni javni razpis za pridobitev sredstev ali pa bodo za lažjo izvedbo gradnje širokopasovne infrastrukture uporabile drugi model financiranja.
