Abstract

Starbuck's Corporation es una casa internacional de café con base en Seattle Washington, Estados Unidos. Starbuck's es la compañía vendedora de café más grande en el mundo. Con 16,120 tiendas en 49 países, incluyendo 11,000 en Estados Unidos, cerca de 1,000 establecimientos en Canadá y más de 800 tiendas en Japón. Cuando el primer Starbucks abrió en el famoso mercado Pike Place de Seattle en 1971, el consumo de café en Estados Unidos había estado decayendo después de haber alcanzado un pique en la década de los 60, cuando el 75 por ciento de la población consumía la bebida. Actualmente, el 52 por ciento de la población adulta en Estados Unidos (107 millones de personas) beben café diariamente, en promedio 3.3 cazas al día. Mientras varias tazas de café se enfriaban en cientos de Starbuck's a lo largo del país, la famosa cadena de cafés anunció que cerrarían cerca de 600 tiendas que no ofrecieron ganancias. Howard Schultz, cuya visión hace 25 años, fue transformar a Starbuck's en un fenómeno cultural a nivel mundial, retornó el 8 de enero del 2008 a el puesto de CEO con una promesa: Starbuck's regresaba a sus raíces.
