Miniplacas en ortodoncia y ortopedia maxilar

Abstract

OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this article is getting to know the main applications of miniplates in today´s orthodontics, compare their advantages with other anchorage devices and analyze their failure and stability indicators. MATERIALS AND METHODS: For this descriptive review, a manual search was carried out in databases such as Pubmed, Science Direct, and Google Scholar; 50 articles were chosen from which an exhaustive analysis was made, collecting the most valuable information to be included it in this article. CONCLUSIONS: Miniplates are biocompatible devices for temporary bone anchorage, they have great versatility helping modern orthodontics, they report high success rates and they can be used in patients with and without active growth. Despite requiring two surgical procedures, their great effectiveness makes them better tolerated by patients, and thanks to their different configurations they are more desired by professionals in order to perform high complex biomechanics of the orthodontic practice.
