Abstract

Türk dış politikasının Orta Doğu’ya yönelik ilgisinin arttığı bir dönemde kurulan İsrail Devleti, Türkiye tarafından ilgi ile karşılanmış ve Türkiye, İsrail’i tanıyan ilk Müslüman ülke olmuştur. Türkiye-İsrail ilişkileri hızla gelişmiş ve 1950’li yıllar boyunca ekonomik, siyasi, askeri alanlarda çeşitli iş birlikleri sağlanmıştır. Ancak 1955 yılından itibaren Türkiye’nin Arap ülkeleri ile yakınlaşma siyaseti onu İsrail’den uzaklaştırmıştır. İki ülke 1956 Süveyş Krizi sonrası ortak tehdit algıları nedeniyle yeniden yakınlaşarak 1958 yılında stratejik iş birliği yapma kararı almışlardır. Bu çalışmada 1958 yılında Türkiye ve İsrail arasında yapılan Periferik Antlaşmanın hangi şartlarda ve nasıl imzalandığını İngiliz devlet arşivi belgeleri ve İsrail devlet adamlarının hatıralarına dayanarak açıklanmaktadır.
