Abstract

Reading is a fundamental competence for life, which is why this action should be encouraged from the earliest years in order to develop children's love of reading. From the Infant Education stage, we must work on the creation of reading habits that will accompany them and facilitate the path towards the development of other skills. Children's literature is a very complete tool that allows the youngest children to approach different genres and themes according to their tastes and needs, so that a good selection of resources by the teacher will ensure that they find moments of enjoyment and pleasure in books. In order to promote this idea in schools, this paper analyses its importance and the different aspects to be taken into account to encourage five and six year old children to read, as well as a study of what is required by Valencian educational law on this subject. Finally, a didactic proposal is created with the aim of developing a taste for reading in children through a reading encouragement plan made up of motivating, playful, didactic and meaningful activities that address the different moments of reading, as well as the creation of a classroom library. Given the potential of these plans, it is hoped that this proposal will promote this competence in students and support teachers in consolidating learning and reading motivation year after year.
