Türkiye’de Turizm Gelirleri ve Cari İşlemler Dengesi Arasındaki İlişkinin Analizi

Abstract

Tourism revenues have an important role in dealing with the current deficit. Financing of the current account deficit in Turkey's economy has been a much discussed topic in recent years. The aim of this study is to analyse the relationship between tourism revenues and current deficit balance in Turkey during the period between 2003:Q1 and 2017:Q4 through long-term Structural VAR Method. The impulse-response findings of the study show that the current deficit balance is affected positively until the 2nd term when a shock occurs in the tourism revenues. This result shows how effective the tourism revenues are over the current deficit. According to the variance decomposition test results, 90% of the changes in the current deficit balance originates from the shocks occurring within itself. However, this effect is continuously getting lower. The ratio of tourism revenues on the current deficit balance is 10%. According to this, 10% of the changes in the current transaction balance result from tourism revenues. Meanwhile, this effect continuously goes up.
