Abstract

Kadınlar, günümüzde iş hayatına katılmaları gün geçtikçe artmakta fakat üst düzey yönetim pozisyonlarında yeterli seviyede yer alamamaktadırlar. Bu duruma sebep olan pek çok neden olmakla birlikte, yapılan araştırmalarda kadınların üstesinden gelemedikleri bir ‘’cam tavan’’ın altında çalışmak zorunda kaldıkları belirtilmektedir. Ülkemizde ve dünyada iş yaşamında günümüzde adı sıkça geçen bir kavram olan “cam tavan sendromu”, belli iş kollarına odaklanan ve genellikle üst düzey profesyonel çalışanları arasında sayıca az olan kadınların gelişme ve ilerlemelerini olumsuz etkileyen görünmez engelleri açıklamaktadır. Hemen hemen bütün dünyada erkek ve kadınların iş yaşamına katılım düzeyleri eşit oranlarda değildir. Halbuki, yönetime katılmada (üst, orta ve alt yönetim) kadınların temsil edilme oranları erkeklere kıyasla oldukça düşük seviyelerde kalmıştır. Kadın çalışanlar iş yaşamlarında karşılaştıkları kariyer engellerini ve özellikle de ‘’cam tavan’’ sendromunu kendi çabalarıyla üstesinden gelmeye başlamışlardır. Günümüzde kadınları kamu görevlerinde, sivil toplum kuruluşlarında ve örgütlerde yönetici ve lider konumunda rastlamak mümkün olmuştur. Yaşanan bu olumlu gelişmelere karşın kadınların iş hayatlarında kariyerlerini geliştirmelerinin önünde halen bazı engeller vardır. Dünyada olduğu gibi ülkemizde de yönetici ve lider konumundaki kadınların sayısı erkeklerin sayısıyla kıyaslandığında oldukça düşük çıkmıştır. Araştırmamızda, ülkemizdeki kadın çalışanların kariyerleri boyunca karşılaşmakta oldukları engelleri ve cam tavan algılamalarını incelemek amacıyla 25 üst düzey ve alt düzey katılımcılarla yüz yüze görüşülerek sohbet tarzında mülakat yapılması hedeflenmiştir.

Women’s, today increasingly are involved in business however they can not get enough space in the senior management team. Many reasons led to this situation but studies specified that women working under a glass ceiling unable to move beyond. Business world in general holds both advantages and obstacles for women. “Glass ceiling”, the latest catch-phrase term in corporate circles, depicts “the numerous invisible barriers keeping women from moving to executive positions”Women and men have equal proportions with respect to their levels of participating in business life almost in the entire world. On the other hand, women have a considerably lower rate of being presented in the management participation (lower, middle and senior management), compared to men. Abstract Women employees have started to overcome the carrier obstacles and notably glass ceiling syndrome which they have to face in the business life, using their own efforts. Nowadays it is possible to see women in the civil society organizations, in public functions and such as leader and manager in some organizations. In spite of all these positive advancements, there are still some obstacles in front of the women who want to make carrier in the business life. Also in our country, the total of women employees who are manager or leader remains quite low relatively men as the whole world. In research, it was aimed to conduct interviews in a face-to-face manner with 25 senior and low-level participants in order to examine the obstacles and glass ceiling perceptions faced by women in our country during their careers.

Coefficient alphas were generated though reliability analysis in order to assess the internal consistency of the scales. We used exploratory factor analysis to investigate the factor structures of the questionnaires. KMO tests were used the asses the properness of the sample.
