Oryantalist tablolarda mimari ögelerin yorumlanması

Abstract

In this study, the images, signs and symbols used by the painters in the orientalist paintings were tried to be analyzed by semiotics method. The meanings of the Orientalist motifs that are included in the works of the artists are used in an implicit way and the meanings of the artists tries to give in the subtext are tried to be revealed. In Orientalist paintings, the image of the East that the artist constructed is compared with the original image and it is tried to establish a connection between these differences. In the first part of the study, the concepts of 'orientalism' and 'orientalist painting are examined in detail. In the second part of the study, Semiology and Phenomenology terms and their basic concepts are discussed. In the section up to the conclusion section, architectural elements and the main frame of the picture in orientalist paintings were examined by semiotics analysis method. In the study, by examining the discourse on the East in Western thought of the 18th and 19th centuries, that inference is compared with the signs of the image of the East and examined in the axis of Orientalism. For this purpose, which codes were used for the image of the East in the orientalist paintings and the relationship between the codes that were used in these paintings and the codes that orientalist painters of the 18th and 19th centuries created will be investigated. This research was carried out through the orientalist paintings of the 18th and 19th centuries and the travel books of the travelers who commuted to the East toward orientalist thought. The aim of this research is to reveal the ways in which Western society and Eastern society were identified by examining the tables in orientalist painting in four groups (ruin, street, vertical element, mosque) in the framework of semiotics from the 18th century, i.e., the beginning of Orientalism.
