Abstract

1517 yılında Yavuz Sultan Selim’in Büyük Doğu Seferi sırasında Osmanlı topraklarına katılan ilçe; öncesinde Hititler, Asurlular, Babiller, Persler, Romalılar, Bizanslılar, Sasaniler, Eyyübiler, Selçuklular, Memlüklüler gibi birçok devletin egemenliği altında kalmıştır (Yılmaz, 1999, s. 2, Boyraz, 2015, s.55a). Halfeti illçesi; Asurlular döneminde "Şitamrat", Yunanlılar döneminde "Urima", Araplar döneminde, "Kal‘at-ül Rum" , Bizanslar döneminde "Romaion Koyla", Memlükler döneminde "Kal‘at-ül Müslimin", Osmanlı döneminde "Urumgala" ve "Rumkale" isimleri ile bilinmektedir (Şanlıurfa İl Kültür Turizm Müdürlüğü, 2020a).
