Erzincan ilinde Demodex folliculorum ve Demodex brevis (Acari:Demodicidae) yaygınlığı

Abstract

This study was carried out to determine the prevalence of Demodex folliculorum and D. brevis (Acari: Demodicidae) in Erzincan province (Turkey) during October 2015 - March 2016. For this purpose, 300 participants were randomly selected from different age groups and from different parts of the province. The skin samples were taken from their cheeks, chins and the nasolabial regions with the method standardized skin surface biopsy (SSSB), and the number of Demodex specimens/cm2 were examined. The social features of the participants, their personal hygiene and habits were determined. Moisture, pH and temperature in the skin area made biopsy were also measured, and the relationships between these variables with Demodex presence were investigated.D. folliculorum prevalence was found as 61% (average 14.34/cm2), and D. brevis prevalence was found as 23.3% (average 3.15/cm2). The density of Demodex mites was higher in men than in women, and also higher in old persons than the young. When examining the dispersion of Demodex mites in the face, the infestation is highest in cheek, and this was followed by nasolabial and chin areas respectively. On the other hand, it is determined that density of Demodex was decreased in high moist skin and low in pH. Accordingly, in skin diseases induced by Demodex mites, the infestation can be reduced by increasing of the skin's moisture and acidity. So it was concluded that usage moisturizing cream and more frequently washing face and bathing would be useful.
