Abstract

Objetivo: Comparar el efecto in vitro de las pastas dentales blanqueadoras a base de carbón activado sobre la rugosidad superficial del esmalte. Metodología: El estudio fue experimental, longitudinal, prospectivo. Se utilizaron 36 muestras dentales bovinas que se clasificaron en 4 grupos de tratamientos: Grupo 1: Daily Caristop® White Triple Acción, Grupo 2: Oral-B 3D White Mineral Clean, Grupo 3: Colgate ® Natural extracts blanqueador purificante y Grupo 4 (control): Colgate® Triple Acción. Se midió la rugosidad superficial inicial usando un rugosímetro, posterior a ello se realizó el cepillado mecánico con cepillos de cerdas medias a 2240 ciclos por minuto, se realizó el lavado con suero fisiológico y se preocedió a medir la rugosidad final. Resultados: Todas las pastas blanqueadoras con carbón activado generaron un aumento de la Ra tras 8 semanas de cepillado mecánico, donde se observaron diferencias estadísticamente significativas; siendo la pasta Daily Caristop® White Triple la que generó menores cambios de Ra. Cuando se comparó la diferencia de valores obtenidos en la Ra final, menos la Ra inicial, respecto al grupo control, las diferencias no fueron estadísticamente significativas. Finalmente, según el tiempo de evaluación, todas las pastas dentales del estudio generaron un cambio en la rugosidad superficial, con diferencias estadísticamente significativas en cada grupo. Conclusión: Todas las pastas blanqueadoras que contenían carbón activado generaron un aumento de la rugosidad superficial del esmalte tras 8 semanas de cepillado mecánico, con diferencias estadísticamente significativas entre los grupos, siendo la pasta Daily Caristop® White Triple la que presentó menor rugosidad superficial.

Objective: To compare the in vitro effect of activated charcoal-based whitening toothpastes on the surface roughness of enamel. Methodology: The study was experimental,longitudinal, and prospective. Thirty-six bovine tooth samples were used and classified into four treatment groups: Group 1: Daily Caristop® White Triple Action, Group 2: OralB 3D White Mineral Clean, Group 3: Colgate® Natural Extracts Purifying Whitening, and Group 4 (control): Colgate® Triple Action. Initial surface roughness was measured using a roughness tester, followed by mechanical brushing with medium-bristle brushes at 2240 cycles per minute, washing with saline solution, and measurement of final roughness. Results: All whitening toothpastes with activated charcoal generated an increase in Ra after 8 weeks of mechanical brushing, with statistically significant differences observed; Daily Caristop® White Triple toothpaste generated the least changes in Ra. When comparing thedifference in values obtained in the final Ra, minus the initial Ra, with respect to the control group, the differences were not statistically significant. Finally, according to the evaluation time, all toothpastes in the study generated a change in surface roughness, with statistically significant differences in each group. Conclusion: All whitening toothpastes containing activated charcoal caused an increase in enamel surface roughness after 8 weeks of mechanical brushing, with statistically significant differences between the groups, with Daily Caristop® White Triple toothpaste showing the lowest surface roughness.
