Abstract

El estudio tiene como objetivo evaluar la aplicación de Diatomita como agente estabilizante en subrasantes de mediana y alta plasticidad. El estudio se desarrolló mediante una metodología experimental, analizando diferentes porcentajes de adición (5%, 10%, 15% y 20%) en tres calicatas representativas. La caracterización inicial de los suelos mostró Índices de Plasticidad entre 19.39% y 28.20%, y valores de CBR entre 2.70% y 3.60%, indicando subrasantes de baja capacidad portante. Los ensayos realizados incluyeron límites de Atterberg, Proctor Modificado, CBR de laboratorio y ensayos DCP en campo. Los resultados mostraron que la adición de 5% de Diatomita fue más efectiva, logrando reducción del IP hasta en 29.2% (C-01: de 28.20% a 19.97%), incremento del CBR hasta 208% (C-03: de 3.60% a 11.10%) y aumento de la Máxima Densidad Seca (C-01: de 1.799 a 1.831 g/cm³). El análisis estadístico evidenció una correlación significativa entre DCP y CBR (R² = 0.998), estableciendo la ecuación CBR = 292/(DCP)^1.12 para control en campo. La evaluación económica demostró que la estabilización con Diatomita al 5% (S/. 590,792.53/km) es 36% más económica que el cemento y 16% más costosa que la cal. Se concluye que la Diatomita al 5% representa una alternativa técnica y económicamente viable para la estabilización de subrasantes arcillosas, mejorando significativamente sus propiedades físico-mecánicas.

The study aims to evaluate the application of Diatomite as a stabilizing agent in subgrades of medium and high plasticity. The research was conducted through an experimental methodology, analyzing different addition percentages (5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%) in three representative test pits. The initial soil characterization showed Plasticity Indices between 19.39% and 28.20%, and CBR values between 2.70% and 3.60%, indicating subgrades with low bearing capacity. The tests performed included Atterberg limits, Modified Proctor, laboratory CBR, and DCP field tests. Results showed that the addition of 5% Diatomite was most effective, achieving a reduction in PI up to 29.2% (C-01: from 28.20% to 19.97%), an increase in CBR up to 208% (C-03: from 3.60% to 11.10%), and an increase in Maximum Dry Density (C-01: from 1.799 to 1.831 g/cm³). Statistical analysis revealed a significant correlation between DCP and CBR (R² = 0.998), establishing the equation CBR = 292/(DCP)^1.12 for field control. The economic evaluation demonstrated that stabilization with 5% Diatomite (S/. 590,792.53/km) is 36% more economical than cement and 16% more expensive than lime. It is concluded that 5% Diatomite represents a technically and economically viable alternative for clayey subgrade stabilization, significantly improving its physical-mechanical properties.
